This is a painting that I have been completing under the guidance of Dr David Cranswick. It has been through many stages so far and will probably have another sitting or two before I will consider it complete. To see step-by-step images as well as a couple of close-ups, click on the link below.

Life Study
Oil on canvas, 2006. This life study was completed during a life drawing workshop, which meant working fast and with fewer layers than I am used to. It was fun to be a little looser with my brushstrokes.

Oil on Canvas, started 2006. I'm not sure what I'm doing with this piece... it started as a rapid oil sketch during a life drawing workshop, and every now and then I slap some extra paint onto it to see what happens. Who knows what it will look like next week.

Left-handed Life Sketch (Royal Academy)
Charcoal on paper, 2006. This rapid sketch was completed at the Royal Academy's life drawing studio in summer 06. At the time I found left-handed drawing unbearably difficult, but in retrospect this is my favourite drawing completed that day.... I don't think I could have achieved such a loose finish with my right hand!
Life Sketch (Royal Academy)
Pastel on Paper, 2006. This is another sketch from the Royal Academy's life drawing studio in summer 06.
Oil on canvas 2002. This was a fun experiment, to create an oil painting that mimics a pixelated photograph. Because I based it on a negative photograph, the subject was not too impressed to see that his shirt had become yellow!
